Lark Music is excited to announce its partnership with the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) in support of its esteemed Young Composers programme. This initiative offers opportunities for emerging composers, instrumentalists, and conductors to enhance their skills and gain insights into the music industry. Under the mentorship of award-winning composer Tania León, five Young Composers will create new works for the LPO’s Debut Sounds 2025 showcase concert, which will take place at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall on Wednesday 2nd July.

This year’s creative brief invites composers to write an eight-minute piece for chamber orchestra inspired by the theme of “memory”, aligning with the LPO’s 2024/25 season entitled ‘Moments Remembered’. The Young Composers programme also includes a series of seminars, workshops, and opportunities to engage with LPO musicians and guest composers, giving composers a chance to experiment with new ideas in a constructive and inquisitive environment.

Lark Music is committed to fostering a vibrant music industry and supporting the development of future talent through meaningful collaborations with organisations such as the LPO. To celebrate the results of the Young Composers programme, let’s explore the achievements of last year’s Young Composers, with an introduction from Tania León. Filmed at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London’s Southbank Centre, each composer collaborated with choreographers from Trinity Laban to debut five thrilling new works for dance. These works were performed at the Debut Sounds: Sound in Motion concert by an ensemble comprising members of the LPO and participants on the Foyle Future First Development Programme, under the baton of LPO Fellow Conductors; Luis Castillo-Briceño and Charlotte Politi.
